huni yawa immersion — february 12–15, 2027

From February 12 to 15, 2027, YURA hosts Huni Yawa, a four-day, three-night residential immersion at Nahku, a retreat center and Mayan dome village near Tulum. Limited to about 15 guests, it’s led by two Indigenous musicians from the Brazilian Amazon. Dua Ninawa Huni Kuin is cacique of Xikuiurumim Village and a guardian of his people’s sacred songs and prayers. Wãnu Yawanawá is a young musician from Mutum Village who has trained in traditional dietas and released her first album in 2024. They’re joined by YURA founder Ariê, who translates and hosts, and co-organizer Rafa Camargo.

The immersion includes:

  • Opening and closing circles, sacred songs, and a sacred concert
  • Two evening Nixi Pae (Uni) ceremonies in the Huni Kuin and Yawanawá traditions
  • Traditional practices, including rapé, Kambô, Hãpaya, and healing plant baths
  • Workshops on sacred prayers and traditional song
  • Kene facial and body painting
  • Morning integration and time in nature
  • Three nights’ accommodation at Nahku, in solar-powered domes or shared house rooms
  • Vegetarian meals throughout
  • Translation in English, Portuguese, and Spanish

No previous experience is needed, only respect, openness, and a willingness to learn. Taking part in any individual practice is voluntary and depends on each guest’s preparation and the guidance of the family. The retreat is designed for adults, and a preparation guide is sent once a place is confirmed.

retreats & cultural immersions

YURA hosts retreats and immersive cultural experiences in Tulum and other destinations. Guests don’t attend these as a performance to watch. They take part in a shared exchange, spending time with the people who carry these traditions.

Retreat offerings include:

  • Retreats and cultural immersions in Tulum
  • Gatherings in other destinations internationally
  • Collaborative events with retreat venues, facilitators, and cultural organizations

ceremonies & cultural gatherings

At the center of YURA’s work are gatherings and ceremonies led by invited Indigenous practitioners. Ariê’s role is not to speak for these traditions. He helps create the conditions for each encounter to happen with care, intimacy, and respect, supporting participants from preparation through integration.

live music & song circles

Music runs through everything YURA does. As a musician himself, Ariê brings people together through:

  • Live music and concerts
  • Song circles
  • Shared singing alongside visiting Indigenous artists

workshops & educational encounters

YURA also opens space for learning directly from Indigenous artists and knowledge holders. Workshops and educational encounters are offered in person in Tulum, and online conversations and community gatherings welcome people from anywhere in the world.

who it's for

  • Travelers and locals seeking a respectful, relationship-based encounter with Indigenous traditions
  • Anyone drawn to ceremony, song, and community rather than a conventional retreat format
  • Musicians and music lovers looking for song circles and live gatherings
  • Retreat venues, facilitators, and cultural organizations seeking collaboration
  • People anywhere in the world who want to join online conversations and community
With YURA, guests are invited into something closer to a relationship than a retreat: an ongoing exchange between ancestral knowledge and contemporary life, held in community in the jungle of Tulum and carried forward long after each gathering ends.

I started my San Miguel de Allende vacation perfectly-with a massage from Brenda at Lakshmi Massage. Tired and sore from traveling, Brenda helped my body and mind recalibrate and I felt ready to enjoy the days ahead. Brenda was skilled and applied the right amount of pressure during the massage. She also used stretching to help release tension. I highly recommend her!

They also scheduled it all so we didn't have to! If you are looking for other things to do they have a great calendar on their website that keeps you updated on everything interesting to do in town.
